Developed as the original 2-N-1 Grip in 1989, the Turbo brand has grown to become one of the best and most innovative companies in the bowling industry. Turbo is respected worldwide as a company committed to giving back to the community, and improving the sport on all levels with top quality grip and accessory products; and exceptional service to distributors, pro shops, and bowlers everywhere.

Turbo’s slogan is “Driven to Bowl,” and its dynamic logo is symbolic of the roots of the company which were born in the famous Detroit-area classic leagues that produced such legends as Joe Norris, Bob Strampe, Ed Lubanski, Gene Stus and Dave Soutar.

Another Dave who also bowled in those leagues was Turbo’s founder, Dave Bernhardt Sr., inventor of the first 2-N-1 and first neon-colored finger insert. Dave developed a passion for bowling at a very young age and continues to bowl today in many leagues throughout Metro Detroit and on the PBA50 Tour. He is actively involved in the business and works closely with his sister company, Davalor Mold Corporation, a plastic injection molding company, to develop new products for the Turbo brand.

When the first 2-N-1 grips hit the market in the late 80s, bowlers really liked the new style, texture and comfort, but what revolutionized the product were the hot, neon colors.   Bowlers and pro shops worldwide couldn’t get enough of the new neon pink, yellow, green and orange inserts. All they had ever known were boring shades of white, yellow and beige.  Since those early days, many new products have been added to the Turbo product line including Clear Ice™ inserts, Duo Color Urethane Thumb solids, Skin Protection and Fitting Tapes, Switch Grip™ Interchangeable inserts, the Bulldog Wrist Support, Strike Wipes and a long list of other popular neon accessories and pro shop tools.

Dave knew that starting a company wasn’t enough—he had to have the right person to manage it and develop the integrity of the brand.  That person turned out to be his oldest daughter, Lori Mraz. Her degree in International Marketing from Western Michigan University in 1991 proved to be the perfect fit for Dave’s new venture. Lori leads the company as its President and continues to work with the Turbo Team to move the brand and industry forward.

Quality and service remain the foundation of the Turbo brand along with an unwavering and generous commitment to the bowling community.
