Chad Roberts, Westerville, Ohio, is also a member of Higgy’s Aquarium USBC Open Championship Team. When asked “What’s your practice or pre-competition routine?” Chad says, “I always make sure to stretch the night before and the morning of before competition. As I get older, I’m learning to adapt my routine to what my body needs to compete at the highest level. I also make sure I double check my equipment before I leave for competition to make sure once that first ball is thrown, the only thing I need to worry about is bowling well.” Great advise for any competitor.

Winning our first eagle in 2016 for Team All-Events at the USBC Open Championships. You always dream of winning on the biggest stage, but it never seems real until after it finally happens! Plus, getting to win with your closest friends makes it that much sweeter.

I always sit down and map out what equipment I’m going to bring based on my past knowledge of the event/center. I then make sure the feel of each ball (thumb and grips) feel and fit properly. If you’re fighting feel, it makes competing 10x harder.

Easy, Turbo Classic Pro grips! They are a game-changer and nothing in the industry feels the same!

In team competition, it’s making sure I am holding up my end of the deal with the team, and even over-preparing in case I or one of the other players needs to step up to help a struggling teammate. For individual competition, nothing is better than the relief of holding the trophy at the end, knowing you accomplished what you set out to do!

Mental game, mental game, MENTAL GAME! Everyone has the ability to practice getting their physical game to where they want, but it’s the mental aspect of sport that puts the top level athletes above everyone else!

This has changed over the years, but since team competition has become a priority, I would say that eSports has been my focus on inspiration since it is very mental based. Sebastian Debs (Ceb) of OG eSports is my current favorite athlete. His positivity and motivation of his teammates is better than any other captain I have witnessed in all of sport.

Picture yourself already driving home with the trophy and not just “wanting” to win it. You have put in the work up to this point, now you just have to throw the shots to make that mental picture true.

Depending on my mood or the event, I’ll listen to different types of music. Generally, I like to listen to John Mayer or some type of blues music to give me a good rhythm and tempo to stay with all day.

That will always be The National Bowling Stadium in Reno, NV! It is truly a special venue and the feeling of competing there feels like you’re competing in something special every time I am there!
